The violence interrupters of SRC have developed a community violence intervention pact. Our violence intervention pact is designed to challenge the systems that facilitate community violence through the proliferation of firearms, the systems that benefit financially from community violence and the proliferation of firearms. Our pact will have an positive impact on the plague of gun violence in our communities. Our proven effective system will eventually be implemented in all needed areas across this nation. Our system has been placed into a five point plan.
Phase one: Community violence interruption:
15 total weeks
7-10 men work as community violence interrupters. All trained in specific areas restorative justice, character development, etc.
Conduct daily violence interruption sessions w/ 24 youth mandated by Courts/probation/parole with a trajectory that is heading towards seemingly violent acts.
Monday through Thursday
9am until 12pm violence interruption session for youth
12:15-1:15 lunch/fellowship with youth
1:30-230 alternating programs ex: restorative justice in my community
2:45 strategy session to plan for next meeting, debriefing about youth.
Friday Street cleaning team with youth.
Every thirty days event designed to have youth positively impact the community. Ex: gun buy back, voter registration event. In conjunction with these monthly events, press release by government partner needed to inform community that this is our answer to the plague of gun violence. We are utilizing those reformed by the justice system to positively impact the youth, and to directly improve levels of violence in our communities.
Phase Two: CVI units in prison:
Housing assignments for incarcerated men and women that are around the clock training and preparation to become violence interrupters for those who have proven over time to have been rehabilitated
Phase Three: Restorative justice in our community.
Phase Four: Legislative agenda:
Hold manufacturers and gun store owners accountable via criminal and civil actions. Dissolution of the D.O.C. Reallocation of funds intended for policing towards programs institutions and policies that have a positive social impact. (i.e.. CVI PACT, Brain Up, Project Redemption, Project Phoenix, Restorative justice in my community.)
Phase Five: Project Redemption:
Coalition of organizations dedicated to community.
